Ms. Irawati Joglekar
I started out as a student who chose science in grade 11th and 12th, to 'keep her options open'. And that was fun too! My heart was always with Psychology. D.G.Ruparel College gave me my first ever opportunity to pursue the subject (BA Psychology), followed by a fun yet rigorous 2 years of Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the University of Mumbai (2012). I started out as a school counselor for 3 lovely years while also being associated with a mental health institute (IPH,Thane) which has given me so much that I can't express enough in words. I now work with adults experiencing a wide range of emotional concerns. I also teach a few subjects at the MA Psychology and PGD (Counseling) level as a guest lecturer. Qualifying the NET for assistant professorship has helped me get interesting teaching opportunities.
Cognitive therapies drew my attention as a beginner, as I've been quite a user of the brain! Training in REBT allowed me to have a good structure to begin with. Over the years, I realized I needed something more to feel a sense of complete-ness in my work. I wanted something that lets the brain rest and makes use of other resources, such as the body! I expanded my training into what is called Integral Somatic Psychology (ISP Practitioner and Assistant). I also have an understanding of Internal Family Systems (IFS Circle, 6 months virtual training) and The Polyvagal Theory (neural exercises for safety and connection). I am part of the QACP (Queer Affirmative Counseling Practices) cohort. I prefer an integrative and trauma informed approach to therapy. While the work focuses very much on the present, there is some focus on the past as well. Sometimes it is the past where our emotions reside and need a compassionate eye to be seen.
I am a member of the IAPS (Indian Academy of Professional Supervisors) and have completed the RISE-UP model of professional supervision.
Other than that, I love travelling that takes me close to nature, I absolutely love dogs and cats and have some of mine. If I write anymore, it might as well be the start of an autobiography!
Hoping the work benefits humans in direct and indirect ways.
